A couple of weeks ago Hattie got a hold of some sunflower seeds I had and planted them. She’s been thrilled to pieces to watch them sprout and even held a funeral when she found one sprout had gotten broken. I’ve tried to gently explain that because they were planted so late in the summer they would probably not flower at all. I‘m afraid she is going to be really disappointed though when they start to die in the next few weeks.
This has really made me want to plant some tomatoes with her next year though. I don’t think they will do as well as they did on our last balcony but it will be fun. Maybe we’ll do some basil, lettuce, spinach, or bell peppers too. We’ll see. I have an event on my calendar to remind me this spring to start thinking about it.
